The Improv Play
“The Improv Play is a realistic portrayal to the plight of a Chicago actor. Sometimes, it can be funny. Sometimes, it can be dramatic. It’s rewarding. It’s demeaning. It pays nothing. It’s the price of happiness. For actors, The Improv Play is a virtual boot camp to toughen you up for the long haul. For the audience, it’s a reminder of what each of these sixteen people gave up to entertain you for a couple of hours. Bittersweet!” – Katy Walsh, Chicago Theatre Beat
“In creating a work that breaks down the barrier between comedy and ‘straight’ theater, Colburn has pinpointed a struggle that will connect with any young artist…Both improvised and scripted, Colburn’s exhilarating play doesn’t sacrifice emotion for energy.” – Oliver Sava, Time Out Chicago
Fucking Men
Beau recently performed the role of Brandon Connor in Bailiwick Chicago’s critically lauded production of Fucking Men. Under Tom Mullen’s direction and after working personally with playwright Joe DiPietro days after his Tony wins for Memphis, the show sold out and was talked about all over town. Here’s what the critics had to say:
“Beau Forbes as the movie star… [is] terrific” – Time Out Chicago, Kris Vire
“Ryan Lanning, as the playwright, Beau Forbes, the actor and Christian Kain Blackburn, the porn star were particular excellent performers in a cast of capable actors.” – ChicagoCritic, Tom Williams
“…with superb performances, expertly rendered mood shifts and a few brief bits of nudity…there is truth and understanding in “F—ing Men.” – Chicago Sun-Times, Hedy Weiss.
“…one of the stronger collections of actors currently on one stage in Chicago.” – Nina Metz, Chicago Tribune
A Love Lost Life
The Last Unicorn
“You’d be hard pressed to find a more innovative theatrical event from a storefront theatre troupe.” ChicagoCritic, Tom Williams
Bad Guys in Suits
“It is Beau Forbes’ Leo Fatz, who has major girlfriend problems, that makes this production shine. Forbes has instant likability and perfect comic reactions. His song ‘Taking It Day By Day’ is the strongest number in the show, in no small part due to Forbes impeccable timing. Each scene he is in he owns and is certainly someone to watch in the Chicago theatre scene.” – Steadystyle Chicago, Alan Bresloff
